Case Study: Omega’s HAZWOPER Supervisors Leads High-Risk Project to Success
In 1942, the U.S. Marine Corps constructed two massive wooden hangars in Tustin, Calif., eventually transferring ownership to the Department of the Navy. Years later, the south hangar was conveyed to the City of Tustin for redevelopment.
Before the city could proceed with development plans, a pre-renovation assessment of hazardous materials, including asbestos, lead, PCBs, particulate, and microbial hazards from animal waste, was required. Omega was called in to conduct and manage the job. After finalizing the assessment, our team developed a strategy to mitigate risk and ensure the project’s continued compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory guidelines.
On November 7th, 2023, the Tustin’s North Hangar caught fire and collapsed, leading to air quality concerns, including potential exposure to asbestos, lead, and other hazardous materials. Omega promptly responded, applying our HAZWOPER expertise to assess the damages and manage the associated risks, ensuring the safety of the surrounding community environment.
