Mold & Moisture Assessments
Omega offers a broad range of environmental services to our clients, including assessment of moisture and mold in both finished buildings and those under construction. Our certified personnel have extensive experience conducting moisture and mold investigations in a variety of structures, including commercial, public, and private buildings. Omega staff have conducted moisture assessments in response to indoor air quality issues and as a precautionary measure to prevent mold in new building materials during construction projects.
Mold Background
Molds are a type of fungi that include numerous species and are present all around us, both outside and indoors. Microscopic mold spores travel inside a building and- in the presence of moisture- can grow on drywall, wood, ceiling tiles and sub-ceiling spaces, carpets, upholstery, and insulation. While not all mold is considered bad, exposure to certain molds are known to cause allergies or adverse respiratory health effects in some people, with worse symptoms often found in more sensitive groups. Persons with compromised immune systems (newborns and the elderly)
Currently, there are no state or federal regulations for safe levels of indoor molds, however, it is considered best practice to prevent high concentrations of mold by reducing excess moisture and preventing moisture intrusion events from occurring inside a building.
Assessment and Mold Management
Omega personnel are experienced in conducting efficient and thorough investigations to determine the sources of moisture that lead to mold issues, and our experts can provide targeted solutions to mitigate these sources and remediate the impacts of mold on building materials.
Problems with indoor mold can be caused by sources of moisture, including:
- Flooding
- Roof or plumbing leaks
- Damp basements or crawlspaces
- High indoor humidity from improperly vented dishwashers and clothes dryers
- Poor ventilation in bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms
- Improper maintenance of HVAC systems in larger buildings
- Blocked exterior drainage systems and gutters
- Imporperly installed irrigation systems
Omega uses multiple assessment methods, including advanced infra-red thermography and digital moisture testing equipment to determine the source of moisture. If necessary, we can take samples to determine the species of mold present, which are analyzed by an accredited independent laboratory.
If mold is found, we can provide a thorough remediation work plan and Omega can execute the clean up, which is proven to be successful by conducting post-remediation air sampling.
