Donald R. Thorne, Ph.D.

Dr. Thorne has served previously as founder and principal roles in four other companies focused on environmental engineering, consulting and education. He earned his doctorate in comparative toxicology and pharmacology from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and was awarded a National Institutes of Health Scholarship for post-doctoral studies in neurotoxicology and pharmacology at the University of California, Irvine. He has more than three decades of experience in the creation and development of companies providing environmental project management and engineering, industrial hygiene, health and safety, training, microbial decontamination, disinfection and deodorization.
Steven C. Rosas
President, Principal, Project Director
Mr. Rosas has expertise in environmental assessment and management for asbestos, mold, lead, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and other hazardous materials. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biological science from California State University, Fullerton, did graduate studies in marketing at Chapman University and holds numerous certifications in the inspection, assessment and abatement of environmental hazards, including USEPA AHERA certifications in asbestos building inspections, abatement and project design, State of California Certified Asbestos Consultant, California Department of Health and Safety as a Lead Sampling Technician, Registered Environmental Assessor and 40 Hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations. His expertise includes consultation for Phase 1 ESAs, asbestos and lead management, environmental site assessment, hazardous material management, industrial hygiene, indoor air quality and mold and moisture assessments. He has significant technical and operational experience in the renovation, abatement, management, and demolition oversight of commercial high-rise, mid-rise and smaller buildings. He is a member of the American Industrial Hygiene Association Orange County Chapter, the International Facility Management Association, the National Environmental Training Association and the American Society of Safety Engineers Orange County Chapter.
Kumar Gunaratna
Project Manager, Senior Industrial Hygienist
Mr. Gunaratna’s areas of expertise include indoor air quality, exposure assessment and measurement, hazardous materials assessments, and emergency response services. He has 12 years’ experience in environmental consulting and industrial hygiene and has conducted a wide variety of environmental assessments, surveys and emergency response work in the aftermath of fire, large water intrusion and natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina. He has worked with public agencies, commercial retailers, schools and high-rise and residential building owners. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance from the University of Houston. He is certified under OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour standards, by the California Department of Health and Safety as a Lead Sampling Technician and Lead Inspector/Assessor and as an international Lead Assessor/Auditor and Internal Quality Auditor, among other advanced training and certifications. He is a member of the American Indoor Air Quality Council (AIAQC) Irvine chapter.
Khalid Mahmood
Project Engineer
Mr. Mahmood has over three decades of diversified engineering and management experience, with an emphasis on hazardous waste site investigations, environmental audits, closure plans, real estate environmental assessments, compliance plans, waste minimization, and remediation. He has completed over 2,000 assessments of real estate properties including office complexes, shopping centers, and industrial and manufacturing facilities and has direct experience in the oversight of environmental investigations and implementation activities for state and federally-designated hazardous waste sites. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Maryland and has worked on environmental assessments and remediation for IBM, Hewlett Packard, Rocky Mountain Arsenal, Hanford Nuclear Facility, and Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), as well as for governmental agencies including the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Navy. He is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, the American Chemical Society, the National Asbestos Council, and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He is HAZWOPER certified and a registered California environmental assessor.
David S. Martinez, CIH
Certified Industrial Hygienist
Mr. Martinez has 27 years’ experience in the recognition, evaluation and control of harmful chemical, biological and physical agents and has completed more than 200 industrial hygiene evaluations, including reviews of company injury and illness prevention plans, asbestos and lead assessments, and demolition planning and oversight. He holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Grand Valley State University and a master’s degree in public health with a focus on hazardous waste management and industrial hygiene from the University of Michigan. He has worked with the State of California Health Department, the Environmental Services Department and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on environmental safety and abatement projects and provided environmental consulting to NASA and NRG Energy Inc., among others. Mr. Martinez is a member of the Orange County American Industrial Hygiene Association and the American Board of Industrial Hygiene. He holds multiple certifications in microbial evaluation and remediation, safety practices, health precautions and regulations.
Ken Mendenhall
Project Manager
Mr. Mendenhall’s areas of expertise include asbestos and lead assessments, construction, field testing and laboratory analysis for both asbestos and lead. He has served as a project supervisor for construction projects that include medical office buildings, airports, stadiums, and distribution centers as well as experience with a wide range of other public, commercial, retail and residential buildings. He studied geology and soil science at Front Range Community College and has advanced training and certification in a wide range of materials and processes, including multiple ACI certifications for concrete, laboratory and aggregate, certification as a Nuclear Density Gauge Operator and a Colorado Asbestos Building Inspector and hazardous materials and radiation safety and training.
Navid Salari
Project Manager and Senior Industrial Hygienist
Mr. Salari has 25 years’ experience in project management and consulting, site investigations, hazardous materials surveys and assessments for indoor air quality, asbestos, lead and mold, among other hazardous materials. He holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri and has worked as an environmental field technician for a variety of corporations. Mr. Salari has served as project manager developing operations and maintenance programs for large commercial real estate companies, property management companies, public entities and universities. He is a California Certified Asbestos Consultant and Registered Environmental Assessor and holds certifications as a USEPA AHERA-certified Asbestos Abatement Project Designer and Asbestos Building Inspector/Management Planner.
